Jess K reviews Nadia Sablin

Sablin's work here was taken over seven summers, documenting the daily lifestyle of her "Aunties," the title of the series. Discarding new conveniences, they choose to live as the family always has; this includes chopping their own wood, gathering their own food, repairing their own damages, even without modern electrical appliances. Their day revolves around natural light, and if the sun is in one room, then that's the room they will occupy. Neither woman married or with children, they live alone together in a small town of Russia. These photos remind me of Goldblatt's in their quiet yet insightful demeanor.
