Christopher Ramirez reviews Hendrik Kersten

Hendrik Kersten is a Dutch visual artist as well as a photographer who is very well known for his photographs of his daughter. Kersten photographs his daughter in these very traditional old master painting portraits that you would often see kings and queens take. He does a very excellent job in creating a painter like quality to his work and it is almost too hard to believe that these are photographs and not actual paintings. When Kersten is taking these photographs of his daughter he puts items on her head to reassemble a hat or crown, like the hair pieces that would be worn in the past. But the items that are placed on his daughters head are things that most people would believe to be trash, which gives us the feel of recycling and reusing items that people once thought were no good and garbage. He is very successful in creating these images and getting these messages across although the images are very similar the message is just as powerful in all of them.
