Lauren Pai Submits Karine Laval

I selected a series of work titled Poolscapes created by the artist, Karine Laval. In this series, she is interested in blurring the line between what is real and what is imaginary. This "line" can sometimes act as a mirror and trick us into thinking what we perceive is real. Her images are digitally manipulated by either flipping them vertically or by changing the color palette to make it more like a watercolor painting.

Her images seem very quiet and still, even though there is a lot of noise. It reminds me of when you stick your head under water, and for those few seconds, no one can hear you and you are all alone-and out of breath! I also appreciate the color of the images because they do remind me of water color paintings, but they also look like intentional light leaks, which works because it adds to the "stillness" of time in these images.
