Clarissa Gutierrez submits Andreas Gursky

My fascination for the relationship between an architectural space and the human being started when I first saw Andreas Gursky's photograph " Hong Kong Shangai Bank". Gursky started as a photographer at a very young age as photojournalist but it wasn't until his teachers Hilla and Bernd Becher awakened his attention to detail, repetition and patterns.
Most of his photographs, despite Becher's compositions, involves the interaction of the human masses and the place each one takes in the worlds by including them into the composition.
Analizing "Hon Kong, Shangai Bank" leads open to discuss Human Identity. the contrast that the artist has captured by incorporating the different sizes of the subjects in his photographs, such as a huge structures and tiny people, interacts with the viewer analyzing the space that a person occupied on earth. Gursky adresses indirectly to the observer to think about how people are always struggling to fit in the world, wether is trying to excel or following stereotypes, and how insignificant one can be compared to millions.
