Joseph Tidline Resource Link 1: TWiT

Twit.tv began in 2005 as an outlet for ex-TechTV host Leo Laporte to record 20 minutes of idle chatter about the tech world in general. Seven years later, it now includes over thirty shows covering topics such as Macs, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, etc. So, I'm sure you're wondering, "How can such a site be useful for UTSA photography students?"

About two years a new show called TWiT Photo was added to the line-up, which was hosted by a different photographer than the one I'm about to mention and co-host Leo Laporte. The photographer hosting the show today is Catherine Hall.

Catherine Hall is commissioned as an Editorial Director and Lead Photographer for clients who include John Deere, Reuters, Credit-Suisse, and News Corp. Catherine’s editorial photography appears publications such as The New York Times, Sydney Morning Herald, and National Geographic Traveler. She is an international photography-competition judge and lecturer. She regularly speaks at top photography trade schools and conferences, such as WPPI, PDN PhotoPlus, Macworld and PPA Affiliates.

So, TWiT Photo includes interviews with many contemporary photographers including Shannon McGrath, Natalie Dybisz, and Bert Monroy. Topics includes things like workflow (which is 90% Lightroom so the information provided will actually be relevant for UTSA students), backing up your collection, obtaining clients, and other contemporary issues.

Another photography related show on TWiT that just started last year is Trey's Variety Hour. Texas based photographer Trey Ratcliff has google hangout sessions with various photographers, photo product reviewers, and photo enthusiasts (such as Sergey Brin from Google).

Ratcliff focuses mostly focuses on HDR photography as a fine art medium and has programmed several iPhone apps including 100 cameras in 1. You can check out his site here.

There are about 66 TWiT Photo shows as of right now. It looks like Catherine Hall just left the show this summer but the interviews are interesting and TWiT really focuses on the cutting edge of contemporary photography so don't hesitate to check out the whole site.

PS: Leo Laporte is really good friends with Tom Anderson (MySpace guy) who is also a big photo enthusiast. He regularly posts new work on his Google+ page
