Egyptian born artist, Lamia Khorshid, plays the idea of homes and shelters and what those things can be in her series “Inherent Spaces.” In the series Khorshid places herself (or a model, not quite sure which) into various places in an attempt to explore the places themselves. The figure in the photographs seems to be both apart of and completely separated from her surroundings. While her clothing suggests that certain environments possess certain types of people; the figures serious expression suggest something else entirely. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but the thought leaves itself up to suggestions.
Personally, I love the images she has created namely for her use of scale and depth in presenting the different rooms her figure is in. The infinite depth of field she uses creates an illusion of actual scale and an overly emphasized foreshortening; which can really be seen in one the top image above, where her legs seem to be jutting out larger than the rest of her body.
