Andrea Couture submits Alessandra Sanguinetti

Alessandra Sanguinetti started photographing her two young cousins in 1999. From this came the two series The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of Their Dreams and The Life That Came. These series of photographs follow the two girls as the grow from childhood into adulthood showing their dreams, fears, and fantasies for life. I love these two series of photos because as a viewer you get to transition from childhood to adulthood with the two girls, remembering what it was like for yourself. The top photo above called Ophelias is from the series The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of Their Dreams. This series is full of whimsical photographs that capture what a young girl might dream about and how a young girl sees life. The second photograph from above is called Time Flies and is from the series The Life That Came. I feel that this photograph definitely captures the emotions of growing older. The girls seem to be pondering life, their fears, and aspirations. I also get a sense that the girls are reluctant to grow older and take on their new responsibilities. I get this sense from the dirt that they are covered by. It seems to be a kind of security blanket, keeping them safe and warm from the world. I really admire the way Sanguinetti was able to portray the emotions of these two girls throughout both series.
